About me: Looking for the next big adventure

We all want to be part of something larger, a great adventure, and make a difference in the world.  I am looking for that next big adventure.  I believe the next big adventure will involve social media as a way to reach more people and change the world. Working in information governance in the public sector, I can see how the public want to use information. With a background in academia, I have a PhD in Politics  published as a book, this blog is an opportunity to participate in the wider public discussion about such issues as privacy, freedom of information, and data protection. If you have the opportunity, I have the writing, research, and analytical skills to make a difference.

I write two blogs and contribute to a number of industry specific discussion sites. One blog, this one, looks at current events with  a political philosophical view. The other blog looks management issues and ideas. My professional work covers areas such as records management where my 2010 paper on the future of record management was awarded highly commended paper in the Records Management Journal. I have also been a contributor to the long journalism start-up Postdesk since August 2011, where several of my articles are published.

My work in the public sector has given me the chance to develop my leadership and management skills with a variety of teams (scrutiny), (policy development) and (information management). In local government you have to work with politicians and I  helped set up a local government political action group, Fourth Option Special Interest Group, (FOSIG) in 2006.  The Group lobbied successfully to change the legislation ( Localism Act 2011) to reinstate the fourth option (committee system) for small councils.

As an American living and working in the UK, I have cross-cultural experience as well as experience working in the private sector with Starbucks and Thrifty.
